Frequently asked questions
Everything you want to know before having a perfume made, for yourself or for your brand.
Bespoke perfume
How much does a bespoke perfume cost?
It depends on the programme: how rich the composition is, the bottle size and the finish. After a short conversation we prepare a proposal for you. Request a no-obligation conversation.
How long does it take to have a bespoke perfume made?
Allow a few weeks. The composition, a refinement round and the maturation of the perfume all take time. We discuss the schedule during the intake.
Can I reorder my perfume later?
Our bespoke programmes are designed as a unique, one-time creation, and the composition cannot be reproduced. If you would like a scent you can reorder, ask about the options during the intake.
Is a bespoke perfume safe?
We work to the IFRA standards, the international guidelines for the safe use of fragrance materials, and take the European cosmetics regulations into account.
Do you deliver outside Belgium?
Yes. We deliver in Belgium, the Netherlands and the rest of the European Union.
Private label perfume
What is a private label perfume?
With a private label perfume you have a fragrance developed exclusively for your brand, sold under your brand name. The formula is based on your brief and is not available to other brands.
What does a private label perfume cost?
It depends on the programme (one fragrance, a signature fragrance or a collection), the number of iterations and the agreements on ownership and exclusivity. Production costs per bottle come on top and depend on run size, bottle and packaging. After a first conversation you receive a tailored proposal.
Who owns the formula?
With private label we transfer the formula: the IP transfer is part of your fragrance programme and agreed in writing, so you become the full owner. If you choose not to, Kastoréll remains the owner of the formula and you receive a right of use for your own brand. Exclusivity is set out in a separate contract.
Do I need an established brand?
You do not need a large brand, but you do need a clear vision. We work with emerging brands, entrepreneurs and labels that want to launch commercially. We are not the right partner for hobby projects or quick turnarounds.
Do you also take care of the legal documents?
We deliver an IFRA-compliant, technically stable and reproducible formula with technical documentation. We explain the legal steps for placing a perfume on the European market beforehand, so you know what you need to arrange as a brand. Read our guide on European regulation.
White label perfume
What is a white label perfume?
With a white label perfume you choose an existing fragrance from our collection and release it under your own brand, with your label and packaging. You do not need to have a formula developed, so you can launch quickly.
What is the difference with private label?
With private label a new fragrance is developed exclusively for you. With white label you choose an existing Kastoréll fragrance and give it your own face. White label is faster and more affordable, private label is more unique.
How large does my order need to be?
We work with small runs, so you can test a fragrance on the market without taking a big risk. We discuss the minimum quantity per project.
What are the costs?
You pay a price per bottle, which depends on the fragrance, the size, the bottle and the packaging, plus a one-time set-up cost for design, printing and administration. You receive a quote in advance.
Will the same fragrance be sold by other brands?
Exclusivity is not a standard part of a white label programme. If you want to be sure your fragrance appears nowhere else, we agree that separately in a contract, or you choose private label.
About Kastoréll
What is the difference between extrait de parfum, eau de parfum and eau de toilette?
The difference lies in the share of fragrance oil. An eau de toilette is the lightest, an eau de parfum sits in between and an extrait de parfum is the richest and stays on the skin the longest. Read our guide on extrait, eau de parfum and eau de toilette.
Where are your perfumes made?
In Belgium, in small quantities and with attention to every detail. We are a boutique perfume house, not a mass producer.
Do you work with natural or synthetic raw materials?
With both. Natural materials, such as essential oils, give character and warmth. Modern synthetic fragrance materials give longevity on the skin, clarity and safety. A good composition needs both.
Which safety standards do you follow?
We work to the IFRA standards and take the European cosmetics regulations into account. You will find more in our guide on perfume and regulation in Europe.
Who do you deliver to?
Everyone is welcome. We deliver in Belgium, the Netherlands and the rest of the European Union.
