Do not rush, a perfume says. A fragrance that has just been mixed is still restless: the raw materials have not found each other yet. Time does something no machine can.
What happens during maturation?
After mixing we let the fragrance oil and the alcohol rest. The molecules bond, the sharp edges disappear and the different layers merge into one whole. A perfume that has matured smells rounder, deeper and calmer.
How long?
That differs per composition. Richer, heavier fragrances need more time than light, fresh ones. For every formula we decide in advance how many weeks it rests and we note the date, so no bottle leaves too early.
Why this belongs to slow creation
Fast is always possible. But a perfume in which you smell something new every time does not come from rushing. That is why we plan maturation as a fixed step, not as a luxury.
Good to know
- Store perfume cool, dark and closed: heat and light break fragrance down.
- A bottle at rest does not get worse: a well-matured fragrance stays beautiful for a long time.
